Description:

The Knockfarrell ridge, known locally as ‘The ‘Cats Back’, lies above the Strathpeffer valley just outside Dingwall and boasts superb views towards Ben Wyvis.  This ridge is also one of the few places in the area that doesn’t require a walk-in as it’s possible to drive right up to take off where there’s ample parking. Conditions need to be reasonably strong for Knockfarrell to work well and the ridge does have something of a spine back, so beware of straying too close to the summit in strong winds. There are numerous landing options down in the valley.  Many of the fields will contain livestock or crops at certain times of year, so apply common sense when choosing where to bottom land.  It’s also worth keeping an eye out for power lines, especially as you get closer to Dingwall.
