How do you get into the sport? PDF Print E-mail

So you think paragliding or hang gliding is for you? Need to learn?

The Highland Hang Gliding & Paragliding Club is not a school so cannot train new entrants into the sport. Once you have received training to club level we have coaches that can bring you on and assist you to achieve your free-fling goals.

First stop should be the BHPA website (www.bhpa.co.uk) where  a list of registered schoolscan be found. Generallly you have two options;

  • train in this country on days off and weekends. This option will take longer as you will need to work round weather, school availability, etc
  • Go overseas with a British registered school. This is a great way to combine a holiday with a new sport.Taking advantage of the more stable waether in other parts of the world means you can put together a number of intensive days training and get to a basic skill level quicker.

Once you have reached CLUB PILOT level we can take you out on the hill where we will be able to give you specific advice on flying in the Highlands.

Scottish Schools we recommend;

Cloudbusters: Peter Shields is a long established trainer teaching both paragliding and paramotoring (the powered version of the sport). Contact him on 01355 239 000.

Flying Fever: Zabdi Keen is based in Arran where they are blessed with sites for all wind directions. Zabdi often runs foreign courses too. Contact her on 01770 303 899

Visiting Pilots!

Coming to the Highlands? Intending to fly?

Whilst we enjoy easy access to many of the hills and mountains in our area you should be aware that relationships exist with a number of landowners. You should also be aware of the dangers that exist in our region. Start off on the right foot by announcing your visit at our online group - we are confident we can help you get more from your visit and maintain the good relationships we currently enjoy.
